Kickstar backers da özellikle senaryo tasarımları ile ilgilenenler için araçlar mevcut ve Napoleonic, Civil War senaryoların bazıları bedava erişimde ama beta aşaması üzerinden her hangi bir bilgi var mı? Testler ve alımlar başladı mı. Oyunun simulation mode ve bir mod üzerinden daha oynanabildiğini duydum ama tam ne olduğunu kestiremedim.

Wow! I can't thank you, the backers, enough! Literally, I couldn't have done it without you. General Staff was 325% funded which is a wonderful vote of confidence. Again, thank you very much.

So, what's going to happen next?

We're going to write a one-click installation package for the Army Editor and the Scenario Editor.
We're going to make a major change in the Map Editor so it will run on lower resolution (usually older laptops) monitors. And then write an installation package for it, too.
Once this is done we'll send out an email with the URL to start downloading and installing these three utility programs. I have to admit that I'm really tempted to give out the beta test link now (and if you write me I'll do it) BUT the scenario data files are very much subject to change. In fact, I'm almost certain that we're going to have to make a few changes to the data files and that means until we lock the data file structure any work you do now may not work later and I really don't want to have to send that email out (that the great army Order of Battle you created has to be redone because we've changed the file structure).
I have to order a whole lot of coffee mugs printed with the logo and a couple of great 19th century Kriegsspiel engravings.
And then we have to mail out a whole lot of coffee mugs.

I anticipate that those who are interested can start beta testing the utility programs (Army Editor, Map Editor and Scenario Editor) in February. With any luck beta testing the actual General Staff game will begin in March.

General Staff utilizes a IGOWEGO system. You give your orders in secret, the AI gives its orders in secret and then units are moved simultaneously, combat is resolved and units appear and dissappear from direct line of sight. The length of each turn is set in the Scenario Editor (see below).

General Staff has two gameplay modes: Simulation  and Kriegsspiel.

Simulation Mode 
 Simulation mode is what you would expect from the designer of the UMS: Universal Military Simulator series: it is a detailed military simulation that is historically accurate and utilizes individual unit strength, leadership, morale, experience and unit formation.

All orders are given by you (as the highest HQ) via courier to your subordinate commanders and from there they are relayed to their subordinate units.

Communications from units in the fight are also sent back up the chain of command via courier. General Staff also employs state of the art 3D Line of Sight algorithms. As the general you can only see what is visible from your own HQ. Other than that, you are dependent on reports arriving by courier

 Units that are no longer directly visible from your HQ slowly fade away indicating their last known position.
A moderately complex General Staff Wargame in simulation mode will take 1-2 hours to play.

Kriegsspiel Mode
Kriegsspiel mode is designed to be a fun 'beer and skittles' type force-on-force' wargame. There are no HQ units and, consequently, all orders are given directly to the units.

Teşekkürler. Simulation mode tercih edilebilir. Kriegsspiel modu bir çok harp oyununda daha iyi örnekleri olduğu için yetersiz gelebilir. Bir tek simulation mod gerçek zamanlı olursa pbem nasıl işleyecek onu tam çözemedim. Turların zaman aralığı senaryo büyüklüğüne göre değişiyor galiba. Örnekte atlının emirleri ulaştırması 8 dakika, turun tekrarı hızlandırılmış şekilde seyrediliyor galiba. Bu alanda Flashpoint Campaigns başarılıydı ama harita ölçeği çok küçüktü.

Evet Simulation mod tercih edilecek büyük bir kısım oyuncu için bence de. Anladığım kadarıyla Scenario Editorde ayarlanıyor süreler ve mesafeler, gerçek zamanlı oolmaz herhalde bi ölçeğe bağlı kalır.
